  8. Where and how to get STDs
  9. =========================

  11. The IAB Internet Standards are documented in a small subset of the
  12. RFCs.  Once you know the RFC number of the document describing an
  13. STD you may obtain that document by getting the RFC (see
  14. ways_to_get_rfcs).
  15.  
  16. For convenience these documents are also grouped and listed by their
  17. STD numbers.
  18.  
  19. The STDs may be obtained via EMAIL or FTP from STD Repositories.
  20.  
  21. 1.  VENERA.ISI.EDU
  22.  
  23. STDs are available via anonymous FTP from VENERA.ISI.EDU, with the
  24. pathname: in-notes/std/stdNN.txt (where "NN" is the number of the STD.
  25. For example STD2.TXT is the current Assigned Numbers document.  Login
  26. with FTP username "anonymous" and password "ftp".

  28. STDs can also be obtained via electronic mail from VENERA.ISI.EDU by
  29. using the RFC-INFO service.  Address the request to "rfc-info@isi.edu"
  30. with a message body of:

  32.          Retrieve: STD
  33.            Doc-ID: STDnnnn
  34.  
  35. (Where "nnnn" refers to the number of the STD (always use 4 digits).
  36. The RFC-INFO@ISI.EDU server provides other ways of selecting STDs
  37. based on date ranges and such; for more information send a message to
  38. "rfc-info@isi.edu" with the message body "help: help".

  40. Note that STDs may be very large (greater than 100,000 charactes), the
  41. RFC-INFO service will return the report in sections of less than
  42. 50,000 characters each.
